A slow morning in paradise, waking up in our lovely air-conditioned villa with absolutely nowhere we needed to be.

Breakfast buffet, eggs made to order.

My kind of paradise.

And just like that, our beach holiday had officially begun. Honestly, not a bad way to start a birthday.

We took our time over breakfast before heading straight to the sun loungers by the pool. A little morning swim to wake up the body, then absolutely nothing on the agenda.

Perfect.

Except the weather had other plans.

The clouds that had been hanging around all morning suddenly turned very, very dark.

And then came the storm.

A proper tropical storm: huge black clouds, pouring rain and wind blowing everywhere.

We assumed it would pass quickly, so we settled under the restaurant hut and waited.

And waited.

Several hours later, we finally reclaimed our loungers and found a shy little patch of sunshine.

Not exactly the tropical birthday weather I had pictured, but it was still warm, and honestly, spending a few hours doing absolutely nothing felt pretty wonderful after a week of safari.

After some more pool time, we decided to investigate the gym.

A treadmill, some dumbbells and everything we needed for a very gentle return to reality.

And somehow, it was already time to get ready for dinner.

Another incredible meal and, once again, far too much food. I still haven’t quite adapted to the soup, starter, main course and dessert routine.

And what a dessert.

Dylan had mentioned to the manager that it was my birthday, so suddenly the entire team appeared, singing.

And singing.

And… still singing.

Eventually, the whole restaurant joined in.

Very sweet, slightly embarrassing, and absolutely adorable.

And came my birthday dessert with “Happy Birthday” written on the plate.

Lovely surprise and attentions and exactly the kind of birthday I could hope for.

Then it was time for bed, officially one candle older.

Ouch.

But if this new year of life gets to start under the palm trees in Zanzibar, I think we’re doing pretty well.

Here’s to the year ahead. 🤍🌴🎂
